Video game publishers have teamed up with the World Health Organization (WHO) to launch a communication campaign called #PlayApartTogether. The operation aims to use the most popular games to send health messages to gamers confined by the coronavirus. WHO hopes to be able to help millions of players around the world to adopt the right behaviors to fight the Covid-19.

We're at a crucial moment in defining outcomes of this pandemic. Games industry companies have a global audience - we encourage all to #PlayApartTogether. More physical distancing + other measures will help to flatten the curve + save lives. https://t.co/QhX0ssN0lH

Respect for safety distances between individuals, regular hand washing or social distancing will be highlighted in the communications exchanged during the games. The big names in video games will use the hashtag to encourage the most effective attitudes towards the pandemic.

Many participating publishers

Events, activities and awards will be specifically added to the titles of participating publishers. Among them, we find Activision Blizzard, Kabam, Snap Games, Amazon Appstore, Maysalward, Twitch, Riot Games or YouTube Gaming. "The #PlayApartTogether program brings out the notions of positivism and community that can help to mobilize us in the face of the urgent task that awaits us," said Bernard Kim, director of publications for the publisher Zynga.

"I thank the video game industry for agreeing to help us end the Covid-19 pandemic," Ray Chambers, US ambassador to WHO, said in a statement. We hope this campaign (…) will encourage even more people to pay attention to their health while helping (…) to save lives. "
