Other plans

The veteran formation, whose germ is the Mocedades group, will perform their usual songs two consecutive nights at the Calderón Theater

1. VOICES AND GUITARS

The history of Mocedades and, therefore, of El Consorcio, began in Bilbao at the end of the 60s, when the composer and producer Juan Carlos Calderón received a homemade recording of a group of friends who called themselves Voices and Guitars. Surprised at how well they voiced their voices, which reminded him of great American folk formations such as Peter, Paul and Mary, he proposed to form a set devoted to melodic pop and vocal harmonies. The success came to them in 1973, when they presented themselves to the Eurovision contest in 1973 and achieved second place thanks to the song Eres tú , which became top 10 on the list of US hits and number one in Spain, Mexico and Switzerland.

2. MOCEDADES IS DIVIDED

The history of Mocedades is a puzzle with too many pieces, including family disagreements, legal disputes and egos struggles that make Game of Thrones a children's story. One of the turning points was the decision of Amaya Uranga, her main voice, to start a solo record adventure in 1984. The thing did not work as expected and already in 1993, in a family reunion in which the singer-songwriter was also present Rosa León, the idea arises to start an independent project as a tribute to the songs and radio programs of the 30s, 40s and 50s. This is how El Consorcio was born, of which other former members of Mocedades were also part, such as the duo formed by Sergio and Estíbaliz (Amaya's sister), Iñaki Uranga and Carlos Zubiaga.

3. LATIN AMERICA IN THE HEART

After three albums dedicated to the postwar songs, El Consorcio's career has been marked by his interest in music from Latin America. First it was Cuba (1998), in which they reviewed traditional themes of the Caribbean island, then they have included numerous boleros and rancheras in a repertoire that have paraded through the major Latin American countries, with particular success in Mexico.

4. LATIN GRAMMY

In 2015 they announced their withdrawal after the death of Sergio Blanco. After a farewell tour they received the Latin Grammy for Musical Excellence, they decided to join again. In fact, they returned to the recording studio before publishing the compilation The Consortium is you . More than 50 great hits, a triple CD that included three unpublished songs: Guess , composed by Juan Carlos Calderón; While I wait , written by José Luis Perales, and a version of Bilbao Song by Bertolt Brecht with lyrics by Víctor Manuel. Now they are part of the repertoire that they usually review live, in which the great classics of Mocedades, those of Sergio and Estíbaliz, some songs of Amaya Uranga alone and even of Los Mitos, the pop group that Carlos founded Zubiaga in 1966.

5. LONGEVITY

The more than 50 years that they have been singing together, even if it is through different projects and periods, they turn their artistic brotherhood into one of the longest-lived in the national scene, only surpassed by that of the Dynamic Duo. And although most are around 80, they don't want to hear about retirement.
