The KTX train derailment accident that occurred on the morning of the 8th was found to be caused by the signal control system error of the south Gangneung Junction.

According to the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport (KT) and KORAIL, the members of the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport (KAI) railway accident investigators visited the scene of the incident and reported the diagnosis.

According to the agency, an error signal was detected at the Gangneung Station and KORAIL Control Center just before the derailment of the train at 7:30 am on August 8, in the signal control system of the Gangneung Junction, which is divided into KTX Gangneung Line and Yeongdong Line.

As a result, the signal from the 21A track returned to normal, but the trail of the accident followed the derailment from the 21B track that followed. I will.

The injured Gangneung Station employee at the time of the accident was found to have been injured in the field by checking for a signal system error.

Regarding the signaling system error, some railway industry officials estimated that the KTX Gangneung Line, which has not been in operation for less than a year, has not been properly maintained, or it may have been built in the first place.

The line switching and signal control system of Nam-Gangneung Junction was installed in June last year. When the temperature is normal, there are no problems and the error may have occurred due to the temperature drop.

KTX Gangneung Line is an all-round double-track train, but the gap between Gangneung Station and Nam Gangneung Station on the same day is a single-track section.

For this reason, KTX trains that pass through this section are waiting for the signals on the up and down lines and then operate alternately.
