The main objective of the expedition is to search and study of sunken objects of material culture in the waters, where a number of ancient cities were located.
“An example is the city of Arvad, located on an island 3.5 km from Tartus. The expedition participants will study the peculiarities of ancient navigation along the route from Ancient Chersonesus to the main centers of ancient civilization in field conditions, ”the university rector Vladimir Nechaev quotes.
It is noted that the expedition will be held with the support of the Ministry of Defense of Russia and the Institute of Oriental Studies of the Russian Academy of Sciences.
