EU Justice Commissioner Vera Jourova has called for leaving Facebook. "I wish that others would follow my example," she told the "Stuttgarter Zeitung" and the "Stuttgarter Nachrichten" according to a preliminary report. Jourova deleted her user account in 2015. "We should preserve the freedom of how far we expose ourselves to this permanent public communication," she said. "That also applies to politicians."

Jourova announced "greater pressure and some regulatory requirements" for Facebook and other communications platforms. It was obvious that companies like Facebook would have to be controlled.

But you can not blame the platforms for everything. Meanwhile, many children have more exchanges on Facebook and Instagram than with mother and father. "Parents need to take more care of their children and know what they are doing."

Being a citizen means more than just being a consumer. If in some countries half of the people only receive news via the Internet, that is worrisome. "There is a lot of work to do, but that is our shared responsibility."
