- There should be no residues of pesticides in products where the Krav brand is included, says Anita Falkenek, CEO of Krav, to Plusredaktionen.

- We really regret if growers got in trouble.

Own tests confirm

After alarms from growers who suspected that Kravmarked plant nutrients had damaged their plants, Krav started an investigation this summer together with suppliers and control companies.

Nine plant nutrients have now been lab tested and seven have been confirmed to contain pesticide residues.

Krav does not want to state which brands it is.

- It is not our task, we have a dialogue with control companies and producers.

Consumers who feel affected can have a dialogue with the person who sold the product, says Anita Falkenek.

"We take it very seriously"

According to Krav, it is difficult to determine exactly what damage was caused by the plant nutrients.

- But it does not matter.

We take this very seriously and want to ensure that our rules in the future can ensure that the products do not contain pesticide residues.

The background to the fact that herbicides have been able to enter the products is that today it is permitted to manufacture plant nutrients for organic cultivation on plant parts from conventional agriculture, where pesticides may be present.

The producers have followed the current rules

- It is important to say that the producers have not made mistakes, they have followed current regulations and many products have been withdrawn from the market, says Anita Falkenek.

- The basic problem is that in conventional production pesticides are used that are so difficult to degrade that they can enter via residual products in organic food.

Requirements: the crop is safe to eat

Anita Falkenek emphasizes, however, that the levels of herbicides measured are within the limit values for what is harmless to humans and animals.

But can you guarantee that the Requirement-labeled plant nutrients that are for sale today are safe to use on tomatoes, for example?

- It is not Krav, but the producers who must guarantee it.

But we guarantee that we will review our regulations.
