People's Action Party wins votes in Singapore parliamentary elections

Xinhua News Agency, Singapore, July 11 (Reporter Cai Shuya) Singapore held its 13th parliamentary election on the 10th. The results of a sample vote count published by the Singapore Electoral Bureau on the 11th show that the ruling PAP has led the vote in 15 of the 17 electoral districts and 13 of the 14 electoral districts.

In the 10-day congressional elections, 191 candidates from 11 political parties and an independent candidate competed for 93 seats in Congress, with approximately 2.65 million eligible voters.

As the election is in the midst of the new crown epidemic, the Singapore Electoral Bureau has adjusted the voting method, including not allowing patients with new crowns and voters who are undergoing quarantine to vote; voters must take their temperature before voting and check the queuing situation online; Wear masks, disposable gloves, and observe safety distance regulations.

The polling station will be open on time at 8 o'clock that day, and the original voting deadline is 20 o'clock. Due to the long queue of votes, the Singapore Electoral Bureau made adjustments on the afternoon of the 10th, canceling the requirement that voters must wear disposable gloves and using hand sanitizer to disinfect, etc., and then announced the extension of the voting deadline to 22:00.

Singapore’s parliament implements a one-chamber system, and its members are elected by referendum for a five-year term. The political party that has obtained the majority of seats in Congress may form a government. In this election, Singapore has 17 electoral districts and 14 single electoral districts. The 17 constituencies include 6 four-person constituencies and 11 five-person constituencies, accounting for 79 of the 93 seats. In each constituency, each party sent several candidates to form a group. Once a party wins, all candidates from that party are elected at the same time.
