A number of children and women in the city of Tarhuna, northwest of Libya, organized today Saturday a protest, during which they demanded to reveal the fate of their missing and kidnapped relatives by the forces of retired Major General Khalifa Hifter during their control of the city, before Al-Wefaq forces recovered them in early June.

The families of the victims appealed to the wise men of the eastern region to contribute to revealing the fate of their kidnapped children, especially after reports were received of some of them in secret prisons in the region.

The people called on the UN mission and human rights organizations to act and condemn those who committed massacres against their children, and urged those concerned in the eastern region to hand over the perpetrators of these acts to justice for trial.

The families of the kidnappers held banners calling for the release of their relatives, and condemned Haftar's crimes, including "O criminal, murderer."

According to the official page of the Libyan Army's "Operation Volcano Anger", the number of reports registered with the General Authority for Research and Identification of Missing (government) reached 115 reports of missing persons since the beginning of the Haftar attack on the capital, Tripoli, in April 2019, without clarifying whether this was The number is only for mortgaging, or for other cities.

Al-Wefaq forces found dozens of bodies in Petrhouna Hospital after they were freed from Haftar forces on June 5, and after that the International Criminal Court said that its investigations in Libya will include the mass graves in Tarhuna.

Turkey and Libya

For his part, Turkish Defense Minister Hulusi Akar stressed that his country would continue to stand with Libya in accordance with the requirements of international law and justice.

This came in a speech to him on Saturday during his visit to his country’s soldiers in Tripoli, on the sidelines of an official visit to Libya accompanied by Chief of Staff Yashar Guler.

"We stand with our Libyan brothers according to what is provided by international law and justice, and we will not retreat from this position," Akar said.

On the mass graves recently discovered by Al-Wefaq forces south of Tripoli and in and around the city of Tarhuna, Akar explained that they are crimes against humanity.

The Minister of Defense expressed his "pride in his country's soldiers in Libya for performing their duties honorably."

Accar, accompanied by Guler, then went to the military hospital of Maitika, where he was briefed on the situation there by officials and the Turkish medical staff working in the hospital.

Regarding allegations that a Turkish ship harassed a French ship off the coast of Libya in the Mediterranean, Akkar reiterated that his country had provided all NATO partners with all the documents and photos that refute the Paris claims that did not provide any evidence of its allegations.

The Turkish minister said that this is "a plot intended to achieve political, not military goals, and France should apologize from Turkey," and stressed that NATO continues to maintain being the most reliable and deterrent alliance in the world.

On Saturday, Akar and Chief of Staff Yashar Guler arrived in Misrata, east of the capital, Tripoli, where they met with the Minister of Interior of the National Accord Government, Fathi Pashaga.

Akar and Pashaga held a meeting at the Air College in the city of Misurata, to discuss the mechanisms of security cooperation between Libya and Turkey, according to the Memorandum of Understanding signed between the two countries in November last year.

On Friday, Libyan National Accord Prime Minister Fayez al-Sarraj held talks with Khulousy Akar and Army Chief of Staff Yasar Gular in the capital, Tripoli, according to a government statement.

The government said in its statement that the talks - which were attended by a high-level military delegation from both sides - dealt with developments in the situation in Libya, and addressed the areas of military and security cooperation and programs to build security and defense capabilities, within the framework of the memorandum of understanding signed between the two countries last November, as well as Coordination mechanisms between the defense ministries in both countries.
