• Coup d'etat: Sudan's army dismisses President Al Bashir
  • Revolts: Algeria coughs and Sudan sneezes

Muammar Gaddafi fell and the animals of the Tripoli Zoo died to hundreds abandoned to their fate . In the Gaza Strip, the two lion cubs that were born in 2013 ended up dying of disease and neglect behind bars while the Strip plunged into Hamas corruption and shortages due to the Israeli blockade. In the public zoo of Caricuao, the largest in Caracas, an elephant, two pumas, a lion, a bengal tiger and a jaguar ran out of food while the Venezuelan diet collapsed . Now the revolution and regime change has reached the lions of the Khartoum zoo. One of them has died and four survive with severe malnutrition.

Since the fall of the dictator Omar al Bashir in April 2019, Sudan has been plunged into an uncertain period of transition guided by the same satrap military who has left many areas of the state without resources, causing cuts in administrations and galloping inflation of food prices. One of those cuts came to Al-Qureishi Park, where some wild animals were already suffering from ridiculous cages such as these five lions and two hyenas.

Since Omar al Bashir sleeps behind bars, the lions have been forgotten by the municipality of Khartoum , on whom they depended. The park closed its doors and could have been forgotten if a Sudanese named Osman Sahih had not visited the area of the park where the lions died slowly, if he had not photographed them and if he had not shared the photos on his Facebook profile : "I am in shock," he wrote.

Two famished lionesses in the same zoo.

The virality of the photographs of the famished lions has reached the transitional government. Nobody has been able to explain why these animals stopped feeding , but the authorities explained at the beginning that they had no resources to take care of them. Hours later, they rectified and joined the hastag #sudananimalrescue to ask for international help to save their lives with food and medicines urgently. That was when the first lion died.

The Four Paws veterinary team evaluating the animals.FOUR PAWS

The Vienna-based Four Paws organization volunteered to travel to Khartoum to monitor the animals with their veterinarians and try to save them . With the permission of the authorities, they are already in Sudan and have just verified the "unfortunate state" of the lions. On their Twitter profile they report each step.

Katharina Braun, the association's spokeswoman, says: "We were surprised by the photos of the emaciated lions. For us it was clear that we had to act quickly because the animals would not last much longer. The top priority at this time is to stabilize and improve the state of animal health, and determine long-term solutions for them. "
