Many are saddened by the story of a brother left in the cold below 30 degrees below zero.

On Monday, foreign media including the New York Times reported that five and 18-month-old children were shivering in a small home in Veneti, Alaska.

Veneti is a remote town 250 kilometers north of Fairbanks, the second largest city of Alaska, and is a small town with only 175 inhabitants.

A five-year-old boy who lived here last week walked about 1 km down the snowy street with his younger brother to his neighbor's house. Both brothers were wearing only socks and thin clothing.

The neighbor, who found them, called the police and asked them to check their homes because they were concerned about the welfare of their children.

Investigations revealed that the brothers were left in a house that had no electricity and no fire because of electricity. State police say they are arresting and investigating brother Peter's 37-year-old Julie Peter.

The relationship between Peter and the brothers is unknown, and the children are reportedly being treated for frostbite and protected by the authorities.
