26 September 2019After three days of 'marathon' and the presentation of hundreds of amendments presented by the oppositions, the Piedmont Regional Council approved the request for a referendum to repeal the proportional share of the current electoral law proposed by the League.

The provision passed with the votes of the majority Fi, FdI and Lega while the minority, which already did not participate in the vote of amendments and agendas, left the classroom.

A similar vote took place yesterday at the regional councils of Veneto, Lombardy, Sardinia and Friuli Venezia Giulia.

This should make it possible to present the request for the referendum, which could then be held between April 15th and June 15th 2020, to the Cassation, as announced by the Calderoli League.

Article 75 of the Constitution provides that at least 5 Regions request a repeal referendum. If formalized by September 30th, the request on the electoral law will then have to pass the examination of legitimacy of the Cassation, by October, and that of admissibility of the Council, by February 10th.
