The Hamburg-Harburg district court has sentenced two operators of a supermarket to ten months imprisonment each, suspended for three years on probation. The 44-year-old and his 48-year-old sister were guilty of negligent homicide, said the judge.

Four-year-old Jonathan had been electrocuted while touching a railing at the cash register on May 31, 2016, and died a day later. The prosecution had demanded a one-year suspended sentence for the defendants. The defense had pleaded for acquittal.
