The software problems with the German air traffic control continue. As a result, the airspace over large parts of Germany on Friday was 25 percent fewer passenger flights than usual.

It could continue to come to delays and flight cancellations, said a spokeswoman for the federal company in Langen near Frankfurt. The safety of aviation was not endangered.

Already since Wednesday evening the national company has reduced the traffic volume for the airspace, which is controlled by the Center Langen near Frankfurt. This extends from Lake Constance in the south to Kassel in the north and from the French border to Thuringia.

Of the larger airports are Stuttgart , Cologne-Bonn , Frankfurt and with a part of the approach also Dusseldorf affected. They had little impact on Thursday.

The affected software provides the pilots with all important data of the respective flight. These are, for example, type of aircraft, route and expected fly-by time.

The system worked in Langen faulty, so that the pilots would have to look more carefully and time-consuming, explained the DFS spokeswoman. The other security systems would be fully available and the other air traffic control centers for other airspaces would not be affected.

A date to solve the software problem DFS still did not name.

Currently, the air traffic after the winter timetable is not as dense as in summer. The Eurocontrol network in Brussels is channeling major traffic flows around Langener Luftraum.
