Europe shields social networks ahead of elections. These measures, which emanate from the Law, will be mandatory for any platform that has more than 45 million active users in the region.

This affects X (previously known as Twitter), TikTok, Instagram or LinkedIn, among others. The elections to the European Parliament next June will serve to test the effectiveness of these new controls. The European Commission's intention to strengthen controls on social networks and search engines ahead of the elections was already known.
