Elementary school student commits suicide after complaining of being bullied; parents request Machida city to re-investigate. In November 2020, a 6th grade girl who attended an elementary school in Machida City died leaving behind a suicide note in which she was said to have been bullied by a classmate.
In February, the city's investigation committee, made up of lawyers and others, released a report that found that multiple incidents of bullying had occurred, but also concluded that "the causes are complex and cannot be identified"
