State Department: G7 countries want to move away from dependence on nuclear fuel from Russia. About 20% of the fuel used by US nuclear reactors is imported under contracts with Russian suppliers.

The administration of American President Joe Biden previously admitted that US dependence on Russian nuclear fuel poses a critical threat to national security. The G7 are committed to phasing out our dependence, said US Assistant Secretary of State for Energy Resources Geoffrey Pyatt. The U.S. is the world’s largest producer of nuclear fuel.
