A man in his twenties was killed on Sunday evening in the suburbs of Dijon in "probable links to drug trafficking", the city's prosecutor's office said on Monday, the scene of an increase in drug-related violence. since a few months.

The young man was targeted by a burst of firearms fired from a vehicle "with several individuals on board" on Sunday, shortly after 9:00 p.m., its occupants then fleeing.

These events took place in a sensitive district of Talant (Côte d'Or) "known to be the scene of drug trafficking", a police source told AFP.

The young man was installed with others "in front of a building lobby" before the shots broke out, added another police source.

Questioned by AFP, Dijon prosecutor Olivier Caracotch "confirmed the death", without further details on how it happened but nevertheless indicating "a probable link with drug trafficking".

This murder is the second in less than four days that could be linked to a gang war for control of drug trafficking. 

During the night from Thursday to Friday, also in the outskirts of Dijon, a 19-year-old young man from the sensitive neighborhood of Fontaine d'Ouche was fatally stabbed.

Four people, including three minors, were arrested as part of this investigation.

Numerous attacks linked to drug trafficking

The day before, a gun attack took place in the same neighborhood where several deal points are known.

A 17-year-old minor was then shot and injured, also the victim of bursts of gunfire from a car.

The victim has already been convicted of drug trafficking.

For several months, Dijon has been the scene of attacks linked to drug trafficking.

The most dramatic caused, at the end of November, the death of a father, victim of a stray bullet while he was sleeping in his apartment located just above a deal point in the Stalingrad district. 

“We are arriving at a 'marseillization' of Dijon,” Cédric Bovrisse, secretary of the police union Alliance for the Côte-d'Or, told AFP on Friday.

“We hear about teams coming from Paris or Marseille, where young people cannot settle and therefore come to the provinces. It happens in Dijon because it is easier to settle here than in the neighborhoods. north of Marseille", he explained.
