Tesla has to make improvements to almost all of its cars registered in the USA. The reason is an incorrect font size on the warning lights. The NHTSA (National Highway Traffic Safety Association), the road safety authority, said on Friday that the recall affects 2.2 million vehicles from the S, "Warning lights with smaller font sizes can make important safety information on the dashboard more difficult to read," the agency said. This increases the risk of accidents.

Tesla has started rolling out free software updates online to fix the problem, it said. The owners should be notified by letter from March 30th. A week ago, Tesla recalled almost 200,000 vehicles because of problems with a display, and two months ago more than two million cars because of changes to the autopilot.

NHTSA says it discovered the problem during a routine safety inspection on Jan. 8. The recall comes as the agency stepped up its inspection of Tesla vehicles. On Friday it also released documents showing that it had upgraded the significance of a 2023 investigation into steering problems. However, there has been no callback so far.

Meanwhile, in China, Tesla is recalling more than 1.6 million Model S, X, 3 and Y electric vehicles exported to China due to problems with automatic power steering and door locks. China's state agency for market regulation announced the recall in early January. She explained that Tesla Motors in Beijing and Shanghai would fix the problems using remote upgrades.
