Allow African researchers to create systems capable of solving the problems of the continent... and why not those of the whole world.
Here is the idea of Indaba, a community that brings together 400 researchers in artificial intelligence which met in 2019 in Kenya, last year in Tunis, and which will meet in 2023 in Ghana.
Among Indaba's projects is Masakhane ("we build together", in Zulu), the creation of an open source language model comparable to the one that allows ChatGPT to work.
Masakhane aims to allow the automatic translation of more than 2,000 African languages such as pidgin, spoken in Nigeria, logba practiced in Togo or even poko in Cameroon.
Languages which all have their particularities and which should allow the development of computer programs that are both richer and finer.
