• CES 2023 Samsung shows off the first rollable and foldable screen at the same time

  • Technology Samsung works on a new application so that users can self-repair their devices

Every year during the month of February,

Samsung announces its most ambitious smartphones.

It is the Galaxy S family, terminals that generally mark the path that the most advanced Android mobiles will follow in the coming months.

If this year's event, held at the Masonic Auditorium in the city of San Francisco, is to be judged, that path, in 2023, will be marked by cameras and megapixels.

GALAXY S23, S23+ and S23 ULTRA

The formula that Samsung has followed is similar to that of previous years.

There are three new phones, two that are more or less the same model but with two screen sizes, and an Ultra model, with more advanced features.

The

S23 and S23+ are two mobiles with 6.1 and 6.6-inch screens

, respectively, that have a new design that is more rounded in the corners and a cleaner camera module, in which the lenses are presented independently. .

They have

three rear cameras, a 50-megapixel main one, a 12-megapixel ultra-wide angle, and a 10-megapixel telephoto lens that provides 3x zoom

.

The front camera, for selfies and video conferences, has 12 megapixels.

Both phones will use Qualcomm's Snapdragon Gen 8 processor in all territories (in previous years, in some countries, Samsung used its own Exynos chips for these phones) and pack 8GB of RAM.

In graphics power, these chips come to be about 40% more powerful than the one present in last year's models.

The battery is the main difference between these two phones.

Being smaller, the S23 has a 3,900 mAh battery while the S23+ opts for a 4,700 mAh battery.

One Ultra camera

The

Galaxy S23 Ultra

is a different beast.

Although it uses the same processor, some models are equipped with 12 GB of RAM and the screen is not only larger, at 6.8 inches, but it is also

compatible with the S-Pen digital pen

, with which it is possible to annotate or draw on the screen using a wide variety of apps and tools.

The biggest change, however, is in the camera.

For the first time, Samsung has opted for

a 200-megapixel

sensor in the main sensor.

As usual, this type of sensor can shoot at maximum resolution, but it is normal for them to combine the information collected by the different sensors to create a photo with less resolution but more detail, in this case 50 megapixels.

In addition to this camera, the S23 Ultra has a 12-megapixel ultra-wide angle and two telephoto lenses, 10 and 3x magnification, with a 10-megapixel quality.

Combining both,

the phone can go up to 100x hybrid zoom

.

The front camera has also improved.

Although it maintains the 12-megapixel resolution, it has better HDR and can record video at 60 frames per second.

The improvements in the cameras, in any case, do not depend only on new and better sensors.

Samsung has also added several software and artificial intelligence advances that contribute to a more advanced photographic experience, such as better behavior in low light scenes or the ability to record 8K quality video at 30 frames per second.

greener

Beyond the technical characteristics, sustainability will also be one of the pillars of the Galaxy S23 range.

For the first time, these phones have been made with various recycled materials that reduce the impact on the environment.

The 5G antenna or the internal speaker, for example, are made in part with plastics from reused fishing nets.

The SIM card tray is also created from recycled plastic and much of the rear casing finish has been created from polyethylene terephthalate from bottles.

The new S series is also the first to use Gorilla Glass Victus 2 display glass, which adds extra durability for long-term use but is designed with an average of 22% recycled materials.

Additionally, all Galaxy S23 smartphones come packaged in a redesigned box made from 100% recycled paper.

The S23, S23+ and S23 Ultra can be reserved from today and will be available from February 17

.

The Galaxy S23 starts at 959 euros, the S23+ at 1,209 euros and the S23 Ultra at 1,409.

All are available in four colors (Phantom Black, Cream, Green and Lavender) and there are some additional exclusive colors available only through the Samsung website.

GALAXY BOOK 3

In addition to the new phones, Samsung has taken advantage of the San Francisco event to present a new range of laptops, the

Galaxy Book3

, which integrate better with the company's phones.

These are

very powerful laptops, equipped with the latest generation of Intel processors, and which in some models are also compatible with the S-Pen digital pen

.

There will be four versions of the laptop: Galaxy Book3 Ultra, Book3 Pro 360, Book3 360, and Book3 Pro. The

Book3 pro

is a lightweight laptop, available in 14-inch and 16-inch sizes.

The 360 models add support for the S-pen, and depending on whether they are Pro or not, they are available in 13, 15 or 16-inch screen sizes.

The most advanced laptop is undoubtedly the Galaxy Book3 Ultra, which can be configured with an Intel Core i9 processor and an NVIDIA RTX Geforce 4070 graphics card.

The Book3 Pro and Ultra models have a Dynamic AMOLED 2X display, which is the technology Samsung uses in smartphone displays.

With a resolution of 2,880 x 1,800, these screens can reach a refresh rate of 120 Hz. They also have a

new quad speaker system and a microphone capable of isolating voice

in noisy environments.

The great advantage of these PCs over the competition is how they integrate with other brand products.

It is possible to use a Galaxy Tab tablet, for example, as a second screen in a simple way.

The Galaxy S series smartphones also offer advanced features, such as the ability to continue reading a website that was started on the mobile on the PC screen, copy, paste or drag and drop between devices or create a wireless access point to the computer in a simple way, without having to configure anything.

Laptops, like phones, will be

available from February 17, except for the Ultra, which will hit the market on February 22

.

Prices start at €1,499 for the 13-inch Book3 360, €2,099 for the 16-inch Book3 Pro 360, €1,899 for the 14-inch Book3 Pro and €2,999 for the 16-inch Book3 Ultra
