From next month, Corona 19 vaccination for infants and toddlers from 6 months to 4 years old has become available, and advance reservations will start tomorrow (30th).

According to the Korea Centers for Disease Control and Prevention's Corona 19 Vaccination Response Promotion Team, vaccination using Pfizer's COVID-19 vaccine for infants will begin next month.

Online and phone advance reservations are available from tomorrow, and inoculations through advance reservations are available from the 20th of the following month.

In addition, from the 13th, reservation vaccination begins on the same day, and you can get the vaccine after registering the list by contacting the medical institution on the day you wish to receive vaccination in advance.

The target for vaccination is infants between the ages of 6 months and 4 years old, and those born in July 2022 whose birthday has passed, to those born in 2018 whose birthday has not passed.

Primary vaccination for infants is given in 3 doses at intervals of 8 weeks, that is, 56 days.

Even if the infant is 5 years old at the time of the third vaccination, the child vaccine for ages 5 to 11 is not received, and the vaccination is completed by observing the 8-week interval with the Pfizer vaccine for infants and young children as before.

Corona 19 vaccination and other national vaccinations are available at the same time without separate intervals.

Infant COVID-19 vaccination is performed at about 1,000 consignment medical institutions capable of treating infants and responding to emergencies, and starting tomorrow, you can check institutions that can receive vaccination on the COVID-19 vaccination site.

In particular, since high-risk infants and toddlers are the main targets for vaccination, they can be vaccinated at tertiary general hospitals and general hospitals they use.

Parents or legal representatives must accompany infants and toddlers for vaccination.

According to the quarantine authorities, infants and young children generally do not have a higher risk of severe illness and death from Corona 19 compared to adults, but they are at higher risk than children (5-11 years old) and adolescents (12-17 years old) who are already receiving vaccinations and develop symptoms. However, the period from diagnosis to death is very short.

The Pfizer vaccine for infants is a vaccine that has been previously licensed and approved by drug regulatory agencies in major countries such as the United States and Europe, and is being vaccinated in the United States, Canada, Japan, and Singapore.

The quarantine authorities have confirmed the effectiveness and safety of the vaccine for infants and young children, and most of the adverse cases are mild to moderate injection site pain, fatigue, and fever, etc.

The authorities plan to actively monitor 1,000 initial inoculations for 7 days after vaccination in order to observe the health status of infants and young children and respond promptly to adverse reactions.
