A doctor in his 40s who hit and killed a motorcycle deliveryman while driving drunk has been handed over to the prosecution in custody.
Incheon Seobu Police Station announced today (27th) that it has sent Doctor A (42) to the prosecution, who was arrested on charges of escape and death under the Act on the Aggravated Punishment of Specific Crimes and drunk driving under the Road Traffic Act.
Mr. A is accused of driving a sports utility vehicle (SUV) while drinking at an intersection in Wondang-dong, Seo-gu, Incheon at around 0:20 am on the 20th, hitting and killing motorcycle deliveryman B (36) and running away.
It was investigated that he crossed the center line while going straight on the road with 6 one-way cars, and ran into Mr. B's motorcycle waiting for a left turn signal on the opposite side.
Mr. B suffered severe head injuries and was taken to a nearby hospital by the 119 ambulance, but died.
Mr. A, a doctor working at a clinic in Incheon, had an accident on his way home after having a dinner with hospital staff.
At the time of his arrest, Mr. A's blood alcohol level was 0.069%, which was the license suspension level.
During the police investigation, he said, "I thought I hit something like an object, not a person," and stated, "I'm sorry to the victim."
Mr. B is said to have worked for a delivery agency about a year ago, and was delivering hamburgers at the time of the accident.
