A 78-year-old man was taken into police custody on Friday morning after appearing at an annex town hall in Saint-Etienne-du-Rouvray, near Rouen, accusing himself of having killed his wife, a-t - we learned from concordant sources.
The septuagenarian "was placed in police custody for intentional homicide," Rouen public prosecutor Frédéric Teillet told AFP, confirming information from the local news site 76actu.
"He is suspected of having killed his 73-year-old wife. The suspect came to the home of the citizen of Saint-Etienne-du-Rouvray with a suitcase to say that he had killed his wife. A saucepan carrying traces of blood were found inside the home," added Frédéric Teillet.
In the office of the mayor of Saint-Etienne-du-Rouvray, it is specified that municipal police officers had first accompanied the man to his home after he had denounced himself to the municipal services.
They then informed the national police because "the death did not look natural".
"The suspect is unknown to justice," said the prosecutor, indicating that he had not yet been heard Friday at the start of the afternoon to explain his act.
The investigation was entrusted to the criminal brigade of the departmental security of Rouen.
