On the first day of the Lunar New Year holiday, two baby lions raised at an animal farm in Gangneung, Gangwon Province escaped from their cages and were captured.

According to the Gangneung Police Station today (22nd), a resident report was received at 119 yesterday at around 8:30 pm that two lions had escaped from the animal farm in Okgye-myeon, Gangneung-si.

Police and firefighters rushed to the scene and captured both lions around 11 p.m.

The two lions, about 6 months old, were roaming a hill about 50m away from the farm, and it was reported that the owner of the farm shot the lions alive with a tranquilizer gun.

The police are investigating the exact circumstances of the accident based on the farm owner's statement that the lions appeared to have escaped through the feeding hole.

The farm has been operating for tourists since 2016, and is known to raise various animals such as tigers, bears, and desert foxes in addition to lions.
