Congress will spend 1.2 million euros to replace the iPhone and Samsung of the deputies
On January 14, the Board of the Congress of Deputies announced in the BOE the closure of the contest that began in September of last year and that sought to replace the terminals that until now were delivered to Spanish deputies.
Congress
has provided these devices to House
members for several years.
Although it gives a choice between
iPhone
and
Android
, the majority of the deputies choose the first option.
The last time the mobile fleet was renewed, five years ago, the
iPhone 8
with 256 GB of memory was chosen as the phone for the deputies.
At that time it was one of Apple's most advanced models, but it still had the TouchID fingerprint identification system and the physical button at the bottom to access the main screen.
The Board of Congress considers that five years have passed since its launch, these phones could stop receiving software updates this year, which may pose a problem for the security of the devices.
To replace them, it has bought
550 iPhone 13
to which it will add
275 Samsung mobiles equipped with Android
.
The total amount will be 1,232,734.69 euros, a figure that both United Podemos and Ciudadanos have criticized.
The final cost per phone is 1,494 euros, much higher than the sale price of the device (especially in the case of Samsung) but the contract includes maintenance and other elements that make the products more expensive.
The change, for the deputies, will be significant.
In addition to the new buttonless design and the facial recognition identification system, the iPhone 13 has other advantages when compared to the iPhone 8.
The screen, for example, uses
OLED technology
and is 6.1 inches in size with a resolution of 2,532 x 1,170 pixels.
The iPhone 8 has a 4.7-inch LCD screen with a resolution of 1,334 x 750 pixels.
The iPhone 13 comes with
Apple
's
A15 Bionic chip
, while the iPhone 8 used the A11 Bionic chip.
The A15 chip is significantly more powerful than the A11, which means the iPhone 13 has faster performance and better graphics performance.
Lastly, the iPhone 13 has a dual-lens rear camera with one ultra-wide lens and one wide-angle lens, while the iPhone 8 has a single-lens rear camera.
It is also compatible with 5G networks, a technology that did not exist when the iPhone 8 hit the market.
