Today (17th), the 3rd Criminal Division of the Daejeon High Court (Presiding Judge Jeong Jae-oh) overturned the first trial judgment that acquitted Mr. A (60), former vice president of the Korea Research Institute for Human Settlements, who was handed over to trial for murder, and opened an appeal trial and sentenced him to 8 years in prison. During the trial, Mr. A argued, "There is no internal relationship with Mr. B, so there is no duty to help," and "There is no causal relationship between not fulfilling the duty to help and death."

The court of the first trial said, “(Mr. B) lost consciousness after vomiting in the house and snored, and there is a possibility that he thought he fell asleep and did not judge that his condition was serious.” The act of not doing so is worthy of criticism, but it is difficult to conclude that there was an intention to kill the victim based only on the evidence presented."

However, in the second trial, all of A's claims were not accepted.

The second trial judge said, “The two appear to have had an internal relationship or at least a trustworthy personal relationship equivalent to this.” "he pointed out.

At the same time, he overturned the first trial and sentenced to a heavy sentence, saying, "I was afraid that the internal relationship would be discovered, and I even tried to cover it up."

In response, Mr. A expressed his intention to appeal to the Supreme Court, saying, "I have regrets, but I will prepare an appeal."
