A senior nurse, the perpetrator of the case of a nurse at Eulji University Hospital in Uijeongbu, who made an extreme choice after being bullied and assaulted at work, was sentenced to six months in prison.

The 9th Criminal Unit of the Uijeongbu District Court sentenced nurse A, who was charged with assault and insult, to six months in prison.

However, considering that Mr. A asked for forgiveness from his bereaved family and deposited it with the court for damage compensation, he was not arrested in court.

The judge did not accept the claim of the defendant and the defense attorney, saying, "The defendant claims that there was no intention, but the degree of assault, such as the contemptuous expression and the act of grabbing the collar, revealed during the investigation was not slight and was intentional."

He then explained the reason for the sentencing, saying, "The defendant's actions caused irreversible damage, such as the victim's eventual death."

The judge also explained the significance of the ruling, saying, "It seems that there is also a need to improve the evil and abuse, commonly referred to as 'burning' in the medical world."

Earlier in November 2021, Mr. B, a new nurse at Eulji University Hospital in Uijeongbu, was found dead as an extreme choice in the hospital dormitory.

Right before his death, Mr. B appealed to his close colleague and boyfriend about bullying within the nurse organization, the so-called 'burning' damage.

As the incident became known, the poor working environment of medical personnel such as nurses at Eulji University Hospital in Uijeongbu was known, and in particular, the special clause that 'you cannot leave the company for one year and cannot move to another hospital' was known and caused controversy.

The bereaved family eventually sued two people, including senior nurse A, to the police, raising suspicion that bullying at work was the cause of the extreme choice.

The police, who started the investigation, secured and investigated three months of CCTV recordings in the hospital and the cell phone of the deceased Mr. B, and called dozens of people, including fellow nurses who worked with Mr. B, as references to hear their statements.

In the end, it was confirmed that Mr. A strongly reprimanded Mr. B in front of other colleagues or assaulted him by grabbing and shaking him by the collar, and Mr. A was handed over to trial.
