A water leisure company in Gapyeong, Gyeonggi-do.

It has various leisure facilities including dozens of water boats and large water slides.

The company owns two facilities in Cheongpyeong Lake, and although it occupies more than 10,000 square meters, it is the largest in Korea.

After opening in 2017, the company carried out construction to expand the site area by 5 times without permission in about a year.

The application for permission from the local government was submitted only four months after the construction progressed.

When the restoration order was issued, the prosecution's investigation revealed that the company's chairman, Mr. A, bribed brokers and local media with money and goods to persuade and threaten the public official in charge of licensing.

It was investigated that the two brokers received 40 million won each and conciliated by giving money and valuables to high-ranking officials of the local government.

It was investigated that Mr. A, the chairman of the company, even ordered physical threats, such as "throwing a Molotov cocktail at the house of a public official."

[Han Mun-hyeok/Uijeongbu District Prosecutor's Office, Namyangju District Prosecutor's Office, Criminal Division 2 Director: As a result, it was confirmed that the local government's stance of not permitting permission was reversed 180 degrees, and permission was obtained for exclusive occupation of a surface wider than a soccer field.]

Prosecutors believe that the officials who were persuaded gave permission by filling out false public documents.

The company earned 10 billion won in revenue for two years from 2019.

Prosecutors intend to recover the amount as proceeds of crime.

In addition, a total of five people were arrested and indicted, including the chairman and representative of the company who ordered the appeasement and intimidation of public officials, and a broker and a local journalist who participated in illegal activities in exchange for money.

The Gapyeong-gun Office explained, "There was appeasement and intimidation, but it was not followed by permission."
