This Monday, a skier in her fifties died in an avalanche in the Alpes-de-Haute-Provence.

Found under four meters of snow and in cardio-respiratory arrest, the victim died despite the intervention of the emergency services.

Four members of the group were also swept away but were not injured.

A skier in her fifties, who was part of a group of seven confirmed ski tourers from the French Alpine Club of Nice, died Monday in an avalanche at the Col de Larche (Alpes-de-Haute-Provence), we learned from the emergency services.

The avalanche occurred around 12:30 p.m. at a place called "Bec de l'Aigle", at an altitude of 2,500 m, in the Parpaillon massif.

Two of them were taken to the emergency services in a state of shock.

Three helicopters and around twenty rescuers mobilized

Significant resources have been mobilized to rescue the skiers: three helicopters and around twenty rescuers, including three dog teams, high mountain gendarmerie platoons (Pghm) from Jausiers (Alpes-de-Haute-Provence) and Briançon (High mountains).

Twenty firefighters were also hired, including a dog handler.

A judicial investigation was opened by the Digne-les-Bains prosecutor's office (Alpes-de-Haute-Provence) and entrusted to the Pghm de Jausiers.

Météo France had reported a "marked" avalanche risk, level 3 out of 5, for Monday on all the massifs of the Alpes-de-Haute-Provence and the Hautes-Alpes.

The two departments are still on "yellow" avalanche vigilance, until Tuesday.
