Police in charge of the case of Lee Ki-young (32), who killed a taxi driver and his cohabitant, are focusing on finding the body of the woman Lee said she buried by the river.

Police and fire authorities have been searching the area around Gongneungcheon, Paju, where Lee stated that she abandoned her body, by mobilizing a riot police, heavy equipment, and a boat equipped with an underwater camera from the morning of today (9th).

Since Lee Ki-young testified that she killed her 50-year-old partner A on the 27th of last month, the police have been searching the Gongneungcheon area, which has been designated as a place of abandonment.

Later, after Lee changed his statement that he had buried the body the day before the transfer, the land around Gongneungcheon, which he designated as the burial point, was dug up and searched with heavy equipment, but the body has not been found so far.

The police considered Lee's statement to be credible based on a lie detector and communication location investigation, but there are concerns that the body has already been lost as there has been no results in the search so far.

The point at which Mr. Lee stated that her body was buried was in early August of last year, and from the middle of the same month, record-breaking heavy rains fell in the central region.

In the Gongneungcheon area, more than 200mm of heavy rain fell, and it was found that the river level, which was usually about 1m, rose to 4-5m.

Mr. Lee may have made a false statement in the first place.

Mr. Lee said he knew the Gongneungcheon area well and accurately stated the geographical features around the burial point.

However, there is a closed circuit TV for disaster monitoring near the point Lee pointed out.

In addition, the vicinity of the point is a place where anglers visit all year round, day and night.

This raises the question of whether Mr. Lee, who knows the area well, would have buried the body at such a point.

Nearby CCTVs have a one-month storage period, and the police believe that there is no benefit to restoring them with forensic work.

A police official said, "There is a possibility that it is a false statement under the circumstances, but there is a part in Lee's statement that matches other investigation evidence, so the search is underway." there is,” he explained.
