A substantive review of the arrest warrant was held for Samsung C&T employees and a supervising designer on charges of inflating the cost of the breakwater restoration project in Gageo Island, Jeollanam-do, promoted by the government.

As a result of the coverage, the prosecution suspects that the construction cost of 20 billion won, twice the amount known so far, was flowed through the so-called jjamjjami.

This is reporter Sohn Ki-jun's exclusive report.

Gageo Island in Shinan-gun, Jeollanam-do has suffered damage every year because it is located along the path of typhoons.

Since 2013, Samsung C&T has been in charge of the breakwater restoration project ordered by the Mokpo Regional Office of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries.

Later, when allegations of inflating the construction cost arose, the Korea Coast Guard and the prosecution launched an investigation, and today (the 6th), an arrest warrant review was conducted for two current and former employees of Samsung C&T and a former designer at the supervision company.

Prosecutors found that Samsung C&T obtained an additional 20 billion won by manipulating material and labor costs for a construction project that would have been possible with 14.7 billion won.

Against this background, the prosecution's judgment is that there was a mismatch between Samsung C&T and the supervision company.

As the superintendent in charge of supervising the construction was unusually in charge of designing the restoration project from the construction company, Samsung C&T, it became a structure that had no choice but to notice from Samsung, and eventually condoned the inflating of the construction cost.

Prosecutors are said to have secured related evidence while raiding the headquarters of Samsung C&T in November last year.

Samsung C&T executives, who were reviewed for an arrest warrant, denied the allegations, saying that the client had asked the contractor and supervisor to proceed with the construction quickly and to consult with each other.

The Samsung C&T side presented only a theoretical position to the SBS reporters that it would actively cooperate with the prosecution's investigation.

The prosecution plans to expand its investigation into whether there is organizational involvement at the company level.
