The Association of Bereaved Families of the 10/29 Itaewon Disaster urged an extension of the government investigation period.

The council and the Citizens' Participation Committee for Truth Investigation under the Citizens' Countermeasures Committee for the October 29 Itaewon Disaster held a press conference at the National Assembly in Yeouido, Seoul today (3rd) and demanded that a sufficient period of time is needed for a proper government investigation.

The deadline for the activities of the National Assembly's 'Special Committee for State Affairs Investigation into the Itaewon Disaster' is until the 7th.

They said, "The organizations subject to the government investigation are consistently giving false answers and avoiding answers, and are showing an attitude that it is only necessary to pass the government investigation period." There are limits that we have to overcome,” he pointed out.

At the same time, he expressed concern that the 1st and 2nd hearings scheduled for the 4th and 6th, respectively, would be limped normally.

In addition, it urged strict responses, such as accusations under the National Assembly Act, against false answers from the heads of institutions subject to the government investigation.

The ruling and opposition parties have entered into discussions over the extension of the parliamentary investigation period, but have yet to find a point of contact.
