There is an incident in which a man in his 50s was falsely accused of sexual assault and served an unfair prison sentence, but his daughter stepped forward to uncover the truth and was acquitted.

By the way, it was revealed that the police officer who caused great damage by the poor investigation at the time even perjured himself in court.

Reporter Ha Jung-yeon reports exclusively.

It was in 2015 that the 'nightmare' began for Mr. Kim, a 50-year-old man who lived an ordinary life selling walnut snacks.

It was after her upstairs woman, Mr. Jeong, came to her and accused her of sexually assaulting her 15-year-old niece.

[Kim Mo: This is a person I have never seen before.

He's never been in the same place, to someone he doesn't even know...

.]

Mr. Kim denied the charges all along, but was eventually arrested and sentenced to six years in prison in the first trial.

A daughter headed to Gokseong, Jeollanam-do, where the incident took place, to prove her father's innocence.

She personally secures the CCTV and meets a woman who said she was sexually assaulted. She even confesses that Jin-beom was her woman's uncle, and that her aunt Jeong led all the manipulations.

In this way, Mr. Kim was released after 11 months, acquitted, and filed a lawsuit against the state for damages.

Two years before the incident, the Jung couple had a history of accusing their neighbors of sexual assault in the same way in Hampyeong, Jeollanam-do, because the police knew this but did not investigate properly.

However, the police officer in charge, Mr. Jeon, testified in court that he did not know about the Hampyeong case, and that the direction of the investigation would have changed if he had known.

Due to this testimony, Mr. Kim lost the case, but during the recent appeal process, evidence was secured that the police were aware of the Hampyeong incident at the time.

When I received the police investigation report at the time through the document submission order, the Hampyeong incident record was attached, and there was also a record that Mr. Jeon edited it himself.

[Choi Jeong-gyu/Attorney: It's too embarrassing to confirm that it was perjury.

Had I known of the existence of the Hampyeong incident, I could have investigated more closely, but since I did not know about it, of course the state should take responsibility...

.]

In a phone call with SBS, Mr. Jeon said, "I don't remember because it was a long time ago," and said he would look at his investigation records again.

[Mr. Kim Mo: It seemed that the police, prosecutors, and judges would filter out anyone.

I want to restore my honor by receiving state compensation rather than economic damage.]

Kim's side plans to sue police officer Jeon for perjury after seeing the results of the second trial on the 13th.
