This could be a double homicide committed by their daughter who then attempted to commit suicide, according to initial investigations.

The couple of nonagenarians found dead on Saturday in Cléguer in Morbihan were killed with knives, in what could be a double homicide committed by their daughter who then tried to commit suicide, the Lorient prosecutor's office said on Tuesday.

Early Saturday afternoon, the gendarmes of Pont-Scorff were alerted after the discovery of two bodies and a seriously injured person in a house, all from the same family.

Investigation opened for assassinations

"In a context linked to age and illness, it appeared that the children took turns at the bedside of their parents. It was during the presence of the girl with the couple that the facts seemed to have taken place" , said the prosecutor of the Republic of Lorient, Stéphane Kellenberger in a press release.

"The parents were hit several times with bladed weapons. The daughter was discovered with injuries suggesting a possible suicide attempt," said the magistrate, adding that the investigations "allowed to exclude the intervention of a third party".

A murder investigation was opened and entrusted by the Lorient public prosecutor's office to the Research Brigade (BR) of the Lorient departmental gendarmerie.

The autopsies of the two victims carried out on Monday confirmed a plurality of stab wounds, according to the same source.

The girl was transferred to "a specialized establishment", added the prosecution, which announced that a judicial investigation would be "opened as soon as possible, in particular depending on the state of health of the person likely to be questioned".
