On the 29th, at around 1:49 pm, a fire broke out in the soundproof tunnel section near the Bukuiwang IC of the 2nd Gyeongin Expressway in Galhyeon-dong, Gwacheon-si, Gyeonggi-do, and the firefighting authorities started to extinguish the fire.

Five people have died in the fire, and many others have been injured, including three serious and 37 minor injuries.

The fire department once counted the number of deaths at 6, but it was confirmed that one person had been double counted, so it was corrected to 5 people.

The fire is estimated to have spread to the soundproof tunnel after a truck accident between a bus and a truck running on the highway.

The fire authorities arrived at the scene about 20 minutes after receiving the report at around 1:50 pm and issued the first stage of response.

Around 2:22 pm, about 10 minutes later, the warning was raised to the second level of response.

The first stage of response is a warning order that mobilizes 31 to 50 equipment from 3 to 7 adjacent fire stations, and the second stage of response is to mobilize 51 to 80 equipment from 8 to 14 fire stations.

Then, around 2:34 p.m., the flames subsided somewhat, and the warning order was lowered again to the first level of response.

So far, 50 units of equipment such as pump cars, 140 firefighters and other firefighters, and firefighting helicopters have been mobilized to extinguish the fire.

As the smoke from the fire soared, astonished citizens called 119, followed by more than 200 cases.

Police and fire authorities plan to investigate the exact amount of damage and the cause of the fire as soon as they catch the flames.
