It has been confirmed that the prosecution sought a six-year prison sentence for Lee Kyu-hyeon (42), a former figure skating national team, who was handed over to trial on charges of attempting to rape a minor student.

According to the legal community today (28th), the Uijeongbu District Prosecutor's Office's Namyangju District Prosecutor's Office 1st Criminal Division (Chief Prosecutor Son Jeong-sook) requested the court to sentence the accused Lee to six years in prison at the decision trial held on the 20th.

They also requested orders to complete a sexual violence treatment program, disclose personal information, and restrict employment.

In the trial held at the hearing of the first part of the Criminal Agreement at the Namyangju Branch of the Uijeongbu District Court (Chief Judge Park Ok-hee), the prosecution demanded that "the quality of the crime is not good, such as the defendant, who is in a position to protect and supervise the victim, using his superior position to approach his young disciple in a planned way." I explained why.

He added, "It is a case of sexual exploitation of a disciple, one of the chronic problems in the sports world, and the victim's normal activities are difficult due to the influence of the family of the accused."

Prosecutors cited the fact that the victim pleaded for severe punishment and that the defendant denied some of the crimes and did not reflect on them as reasons for seeking a prison sentence.

Earlier this year, Mr. Lee was arrested and indicted on charges of forcibly molesting and attempting to rape one of his teenage students.

He is also accused of illegally filming the video.

However, Mr. Lee denies some of the charges, saying, "I admit to the molestation and filming, but the attempted rape is not true."

Lee has a record of participating in two consecutive Winter Olympics, including Nagano in 1998 and Salt Lake City in 2002, and has been active as a coach since retiring in 2003.

The sentencing hearing for Mr. Lee will be held on the 26th of next month.
