Amidst the cold wave that covered the country today (22nd), a lot of snow fell all day in Honam, Chungcheong, and the southwest including Jeju's mountains.

Yes, I am at a rest stop on a highway in Jeongeup, Jeollabuk-do.



There was so much snow that my feet were sinking in, but a little while ago, the snow started again with a strong wind.



So far, 22.5 cm of snow has fallen in Jeongeup.



The branches of the pine trees are bent because they cannot overcome the weight of the accumulated snow.



Today, strong snow of 2 to 5 cm per hour was poured in the mountains of Chungcheong, Honam, and Jeju Island.



A heavy snow warning has been issued in all areas of Jeollabuk-do, and by evening, snowfall of up to 36.8 cm and Sunchang 29.4 cm were recorded in Imsil, Jeonbuk.



Due to the heavy snowfall, 11 trails and 114 trails in national parks and provincial parks in the Honam area were controlled, and 10 national roads and 39 local roads nationwide were also controlled.



Some kindergartens and elementary, middle, and high schools in Gwangju, Jeonnam, and Jeonbuk have adjusted their arrival and departure times or closed schools.



In Gunsan, Jeollabuk-do, where 3cm of snow fell at one time in the morning, sledding appeared in the city center when bus service was suspended.



There were also large and small traffic accidents on highways and national roads that turned into icy roads.



The Korea Meteorological Administration predicted that very strong snow of 3 to 5 cm per hour will fall tomorrow as well. It is expected that as much as 25 cm will fall in the Chungcheong region, more than 30 cm in the western Honam region, and more than 50 cm in the mountainous areas of Jeju.



The Ministry of Public Administration and Security said that more snow would fall overnight, especially on the west coast, and asked to be careful to avoid safety accidents and damage to facilities.
