The storm that is hitting Spain these days has brought much-needed water to most of the territory, and also the coveted snow for lovers of winter sports.

But unfortunately, it has not reached all ski resorts equally.

Only a handful of them, those located (as always) in the Pyrenees and Sierra Nevada, have been able to open their facilities to the public on Christmas Eve.

For those who are thinking of a getaway to the snow at this time, these are some of the slopes in Spain that are already at full capacity.

Baqueira-Beret

Located in the Aran Valley, in the Catalan Pyrenees, experts consider this station the best in Spain.

Its more than 170 km of skiable domain also makes it the largest in the country.

It has 1,110 meters of unevenness that houses 117 slopes of all levels.

It also has four children's snow parks.

According to the most recent data from the resort, there are currently 79 slopes open and 118 skiable km.

It has been in operation for more than 70 years (it was the first to install a mechanical lift, in 1943) and some of the most important ski and snowboard athletes have competed on its slopes.

With a maximum height of 2,445 m, it currently has 25 open slopes, 66, and 22 skiable km, 71. The Catalan station also houses two slopes for sledging.

Candanchú and Astún

Astun.

A few kilometers from Jaca, and just two from the border with France, these two stations are located, very close to each other.

First, at 1,500 altitude, is Candanchú, one of the oldest in Spain, inaugurated in 1928. It is divided into four different areas suitable for all levels and only a third of its 61 tracks are open.

For its part, Astún, located at a higher elevation but protected from strong wind currents, has a ski area of 50 km and 60 slopes of all levels, of which 18 are currently in operation. More information here.

Sierra Nevada

The Granada resort is one of the most popular and receives the most skiers from Spain.

It is also the southernmost in Europe and the one that is located at the highest altitude on the peninsula.

In the shadow of Veleta and Mulhacén, the highest peak on the peninsula at 3,718 meters, Sierra Nevada is currently the station with the least snowfall of the large ones.

Even so, it has six open slopes, out of 133, that cover only 2.3 skiable kilometers, of the more than 105 km that it has in optimal conditions.
