A fire broke out in Vaulx-en-Velin, near Lyon, around 3 a.m. on Friday.

The provisional report shows 10 people dead, including 5 children, said the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes prefecture.

A major fire was declared in Vaulx-en-Velin, near Lyon, around 3 a.m. this Friday in a seven-storey building located on Chemin des Barques.

The origin of this fire is still unknown.

The provisional report shows 10 people dead, including five children, said the prefect of the Auvergne-Rhône Alpes and Rhône region in a press release. 

Four victims are in absolute emergency and ten people are slightly injured, including two firefighters.

According to the prefecture, 170 firefighters are engaged on site.

The fire is now extinguished and a security perimeter has been set up by the national police.
