An elderly man in his 80s in Gongju City, Chungcheongnam-do was seriously injured after being dragged by a city bus that opened the door and departed, and died after undergoing hospital treatment.

Today (15th), the Gongju Police Station in Chungcheongnam-do announced that it was investigating a bus driver named A on charges of negligent manslaughter on the job due to a violation of the passenger fall prevention duty.

At around 6:45 am on the 10th, Mr. A started the bus at a bus stop in Okryong-dong, Gongju-si without closing the door before Mr. B in his 80s got on completely.

It is said that Mr. B was dragged about 7m while hanging on the handrail of the bus stairs.

When Mr. A belatedly discovered and stopped the bus, Mr. B suffered fractures to his arms and legs, but he was conscious.

However, the next day after being transferred to the hospital, Mr. B died of cerebral edema and cerebral infarction.

In a police investigation, Mr. A is said to have stated, "I did not see Mr. B, who was bent at the waist, grabbing the handrail of his stairs to get on the bus in a dark and foggy situation before dawn."

A police official said, "We are investigating the details of the accident through investigation of Mr. A's statement."
