SK Chairman Chey Tae-won and Roh So-young, art center butterfly director, came to the conclusion of the first trial in 5 years.

The court held that Chairman Choi was responsible for the divorce, but ruled that the division of property should pay 66.5 billion won in cash, not SK stocks, against the 1.3 trillion won requested by Director Roh.

In 1988, the eldest son of a conglomerate and the daughter of an incumbent president drew attention and had a wedding ceremony at the Blue House guesthouse.

However, after 27 years of marriage, Chairman Chey Tae-won announced his intention to divorce by revealing a letter stating that he had a child outside of marriage.

Director Noh confronted, saying, "I will protect the family," and the divorce mediation process that started in 2017 was also canceled and a formal lawsuit was entered.

In 2019, Director Roh also changed his mind and filed a countersuit, charging Chairman Choi with alimony of 300 million won and 'half of SK Holdings shares owned by Chairman Choi', which is worth about 1.3 trillion won based on the current market capitalization.

After 5 years of long court battles, the first trial court ruled that the two divorced today (6th).

The court ordered Chairman Choi to pay 100 million won in alimony, saying that he was mainly responsible for the breakdown of the marriage, but it was different in property division.

The court ruled that SK holdings stocks should be excluded from the property division, and instead, Chairman Choi should pay 66.5 billion won in cash to Director Roh by dividing the real estate and severance pay.

Director Roh's claim to consider his contribution to SK's property formation from the time of former President Roh Tae-woo was dismissed, and Chairman Chey's argument that SK stock was a 'unique property' that was not subject to property division because it was inherited from his father was accepted.

Chairman Choi's side said that it respected the judge's judgment, but Director Roh's side did not take a position.
