A semi-aquatic duck.
This is what the new species of dinosaur discovered in 2008 would look like. It took a few years to draw conclusions on this fossil found in the Gobi desert, in Mongolia, reports
New Scientist
in an article relayed by the magazine
Geo
.
But the "Natovenator polydontus" would be a kind of carnivorous duck.
The fossil had allowed scientists to dispose of a virtually complete skeleton.
The dinosaur apparently lived in the Upper Cretaceous era, between 100 and 66 million years before our era.
It would present an unprecedented slender shape.
A good swimmer and a good diver
Specialists point out that the shape of the dinosaur would be similar to that of the duck.
It would thus be a good swimmer and a good diver, thanks to its tapered shape.
Finally, it would be a carnivore, several teeth having been discovered on the skeleton.
The analyzes would attest to a genetic proximity with another species discovered more recently, in 2017: the Halzkaraptor which would also be able to live in water.
