A gang that stole hundreds of billions of won by deceiving undevelopable land as if it could be developed has been handed over to the prosecution.

Seoul Suseo Police Station announced on the 28th that it had re-sent over 20 people, including representatives of planning and real estate companies, on charges of fraud under the Act on the Aggravated Punishment of Specific Economic Crimes and violation of the Farmland Act.

They are accused of receiving 250 billion won in the name of sales proceeds from 3,000 victims by deceiving that they know undisclosed development information related to lands in Songpa-gu and Gangdong-gu in Seoul, Wonju in Gangwon-do, and Pyeongtaek in Gyeonggi-do.

The land they promoted was designated as an absolute conservation area, such as 'biotope' (a habitat for certain creatures that exist in the city), and was actually said to be a place where development was impossible.

The police received complaints from the victims in July of last year, launched an investigation, and sent about 10 officials.

However, in December of the same year, the Seoul Central District Prosecutor's Office requested a supplementary investigation and took over the case again, investigated it for about a year more, and handed it over to the prosecution again.

It is known that among the victims of their scam was Taeyeon, a member of the girl group Girls' Generation.
