Former special prosecutor Park Young-soo, who is accused of renting a luxury foreign car free of charge from a man who pretended to be a fisherman, has been handed over to trial.

Incumbent prosecutors and journalists who received payment for their children's school expenses were also indicted.

a year after receiving the case from the police, the prosecution handed over the former special prosecutor Park Young-soo, the incumbent prosecutor, and three former incumbent journalists to trial.



He is accused of violating the Improper Solicitation and Solicitation Act by receiving more than 1 million won at a time or 3 million won a year from Mr. Kim, a fake fisherman.



Former special prosecutor Park is accused of borrowing a Porsche car from Mr. Kim for free in 2020 and receiving 860,000 won worth of seafood and receiving 3.36 million won.



During the investigation, the former special prosecutor Park submitted a confirmation that the fisherman received a vehicle fee, but as a result of the investigation, the confirmation was found to be false.



Prosecutor Lee Bang-hyeon of the Gwangju District Prosecutor's Office was handed over to the trial on charges of receiving 5.8 million won for a child's school expenses from Mr. Kim along with free use of the vehicle.



Former Chosun Ilbo editorial editor Lee Dong-hoon, former TV Chosun anchor Eom Seong-seop, and former JoongAng Ilbo reporter Lee Dong-hoon were also charged with receiving gifts of more than 3 million won a year and free use of vehicles, respectively.



Former lawmaker Kim Moo-seong was sent by the police on charges of borrowing Genesis for free from Mr. Kim, but the prosecution dismissed the charges on the basis that former lawmaker Kim paid the fee through his secretary before the police investigation began.



Former Special Prosecutor Park Young-soo has argued throughout the investigation that the special prosecutor is not a public official but a civilian who performs public duties instead of being punished.



The prosecution said that the disciplinary action against Prosecutor Lee Bang-hyun will be conducted separately from the trial.
