Nissan is sending the fourth generation of the SUV X-Trail to the German market in November.

The stately SUV (4.86 meters long) is offered as a five- or seven-seater, there is front or all-wheel drive, but no more diesel engines.

The new SUV looks muscular on the outside and offers plenty of space inside.

However, the third row of seats (800 euros surcharge) is only suitable for children.

Arithmetically, 575 liters can be stowed behind the wide swinging tailgate of the X-Trail.

It's nice that when the rows of seats are folded down, a flat loading area is created and the divided second row of seats can also be moved by 22 centimetres.

After the smaller Qashqai, the X-Trail is also available as a hybrid with "e-power".

Nissan understands this to be a special hybrid system in which a 1.5-liter turbo petrol engine (158 hp), which acts as a generator, works together with a 150 kW (204 hp) electric motor.

The three-cylinder petrol engine is only used to generate electricity.

The entire system mobilizes 204 hp and achieves a maximum torque of 330 Newton meters.

As a front-wheel drive vehicle with a base price of 37,000 euros, the X-Trail IV has a top speed of 170 km/h.

The all-wheel drive variant from 44,400 euros has another electric motor on the rear axle, resulting in a system output of 214 hp and a maximum torque of 525 Nm.

The maximum speed increases by 10 km/h.

The standard consumption of the front-wheel drive is around 6.0 liters, with all-wheel drive it is around half a liter more.

The top version X-Trail e-4 ORCE Tekna+ was available for the first test drives at a list price of 55,730 euros.

The equipment includes LED matrix light, head-up display and a glass roof.

The drive system runs pleasantly quiet, comfortable and agile, but it seemed strained on inclines.

The chassis absorbs bumps well.

Our on-board computer showed a consumption of 6.7 liters.

The one-pedal function is pleasant for city traffic, just like in a real electric car: the accelerator pedal can be used to accelerate and decelerate.

If you are unfamiliar with the unusual system: a 1.5-liter turbo three-cylinder with 163 hp is available from 35,500 euros.
