<Anchor> The

city of Seoul announced its plan to subterrane the Gangbyeonbuk-ro and Gyeongbu Arterial Road and create a park thereon.

It is expected that it will be able to solve the traffic problem and reduce air pollutants, but the problem is to raise a large amount of financial resources.

'Park Rio' in Madrid, Spain.

Many citizens enjoy taking a walk, exercising and having a good time.

This was originally an eight-lane round-trip highway.

Although 200,000 vehicles passed by every day, soot and noise problems persisted, but in 2007, the city of Madrid turned the riverside road into an underground park, making an 8km section into a waterfront park.

[Eltor Bardero / M30 Road Corporation Managing Director: There is a part where the traffic volume has increased.

However, accidents and traffic jams have decreased, and citizens' convenience has increased.]

As more than 1 million square meters of green space, four times the size of Yeouido Park, has been created, it is expected that 90% of air pollutants will be reduced.

The Seoul Metropolitan Government announced that it would make Seoul's Gangbyeonbuk-ro and Gyeongbu Arterial Road like this Rio Park.

In the case of Gangbyeonbuk-ro, a new 6-lane road will be built underground instead of reducing the current 8-lane round-trip to 6 lanes.

As the number of above-ground roads decreases, the park's green space increases.

A plan to cut the width of the 8-lane round-trip Gyeongbu Arterial Road in half and build a 12-lane highway under the ground is being considered.

The goal is to start construction in 2025, but the biggest challenge is the cost.

It is estimated that the construction cost alone will cost more than 2 trillion won, so it is likely to attract private capital. In this case, toll charges are inevitable.

[Junho Koh / Professor of Urban Engineering, Hanyang University: Some of them must be paid for, if you do it privately.

From the level of fares, some sections have to be privately financed, some sections have to be financed, and now there are a lot of worries about those things.]

There is a way to raise money by selling the current road site, but there is a disadvantage that the green space is reduced that much. .

Also, I am concerned about how to distribute hundreds of thousands of vehicles per day during the construction period, which is expected to be about 10 years.
