About 10 minutes by boat from Hakampo, Taean.

A silver sand island appears in the middle of the blue sea.

Fine grains of sand flew away like crumbs, making their way across the sea and turning into a large island.

The 35km long and 4km wide Jangan Satoe was formed by accumulating sand during the repeated ebb and flow for 3,000 years.

It is a perfect resting place for cormorants, seagulls and seals, as well as a spawning ground for blue crabs and canaries.

[Kwon Kyung-sook / Secretary General of Seosan Taean Environmental Movement Association: Because it is a spawning ground and a nursery, it plays a role of enriching fish stocks.

As a result, it is a very important place because it ultimately plays a role in increasing the biodiversity of the marine ecosystem.]

Jangan Satoe, nicknamed the Maldives of Korea, has a beautiful scenery and also acts as a thankful breakwater to protect the lives of fishermen by blocking typhoons.

[Choi Yeong-mook / Taean Hakampo Fishing Village Chief: (Jangan resignation) plays such a role to reduce the waves.

I think it serves as an intermediate breakwater here when a tsunami or typhoon comes.]

Taean-gun is promoting the installation of berthing facilities to secure accessibility to Jangan-gun, but there is also the view that it is damaging the environment.

[Gasero/Taean-gun: I would like to inform you that we will develop a small and safe berthing facility as a tourist attraction or tourist base that anyone can enjoy while visiting Jangan Satoe.]

The mysterious sand island appears every month on the eve and full moon for three or four days and then reappears. disappears into the water.
