A woman in her 50s has been sentenced to death after assaulting an intellectually disabled person in the bathroom of the prayer center where she works.

Today (24th), the 14th Criminal Division of the Incheon District Court (Chief Judge Ryu Gyeong-jin) announced that A (55), who was handed over to trial for assault and violating the Welfare Act for the Disabled, was sentenced to two years in prison.

She also ordered a restriction on employment in disability-related organizations for three years after her release.

A is accused of assaulting and killing a woman B (31), a woman she was caring for, at a prayer center in Incheon around 11:30 pm on the 25th of February.

On the day of the incident, Mr. A got angry while washing Mr. B in her prayer room bathroom, and because of Mr. B, who resisted this, he hit his head in the sink.

Then, the stress accumulated while taking care of her B, Mr. A, knocked over her victim and then assaulted her.

Mr. B was left unconscious for about three hours in her bathroom, and eventually died of hypothermia.

Mr. A, who stood in court, argued that "there was no causal relationship between the assault and the victim's death" and that "she could not have foreseen her death at the time of the assault," but the court did not accept this.

The court pointed out, "Even if the body temperature drops below 32 degrees, he dies from hypothermia, but immediately after being transported to the emergency room, the victim's body temperature was 24 degrees."

In particular, he explained, "It is reasonable to assume that the victim predicted that he could die from hypothermia if left unattended, even from the testimony of the accused, 'I ran lukewarm water in the shower on the right thigh for fear of being cold'."

"The accused is highly likely to be criticized for committing crimes against people with intellectual disabilities who lack the ability to defend themselves," he said. .
