The bereaved of the death of a worker in his 20s at a bakery factory affiliated with Pyeongtaek SPC has filed a complaint with the Ministry of Employment and Labor and the police to clarify the circumstances of the accident.



Lawyer Oh Bit-nara, the legal representative of the bereaved family, announced today (21st) that SPL Co., Ltd., SPL CEO Kang Dong-seok, and safety and health management officer were sued to the Gyeonggi Branch of the Ministry of Employment and Labor for violating the Serious Disaster Punishment Act and the Industrial Safety and Health Act.



She also filed a complaint against the head of SPL's safety and health management at the Pyeongtaek Police Station, Gyeonggi Province, on charges of negligent manslaughter.



Earlier, at 6:20 am on the 15th, worker A (23, female), a 23-year-old woman at the Pyeongtaek SPC-affiliated SPL bakery, had an accident where her upper body went into the machine while operating the sauce stirrer that goes into the sandwich and died.



The complainant's side said, "The defendant did not install a cover and automatic protection device (interlock) on the stirrer, had to work in a group of two, but had the victim work alone, and did not comply with the obligation to provide a safe environment such as safety education. " asserted.



"The victim died in excruciating pain as his upper body was crushed by a stirrer," he said.



He continued, "The SPC side is trying to avoid responsibility by saying, 'The accident happened while a co-worker at the scene was away, and it is difficult to clearly understand the circumstances of the accident because it is in the blind spot of the CCTV.' We strongly want that the circumstances that led to the death of our invaluable and precious daughter be made clear and that the person responsible be punished appropriately."



Meanwhile, SPC Chairman Heo Young-in held a press conference at the SPC headquarters in Seocho-gu, Seoul this morning and said, "I feel responsible for this accident and humbly accept the severe rebuke and criticism of the people." We sincerely apologize for not being able to consider and consider the sorrow first."



SPC also announced measures to prevent recurrence of an investment of 100 billion won over three years to strengthen safety management.
