A man at a pension in Gapyeong, Gyeonggi-do uses a mobile phone app to order snacks and bottled water.

The place where the order is accepted is a convenience store about 2.7 km away, and the ordered item is loaded onto the roof of the building and carried to the delivery box at the bottom of the drone.

The order arrived in just 2 minutes, about 1km along the sky road.

[Chang Cheon-soon/President of Pension: After entering the room, drinking a drink and in such cases, you cannot drink and drive, so you can order by installing the QR code and installing the app.

] Together with others, we introduced a so-called 'address-based' drone delivery service.

This is a method of delivering goods by designating a delivery point that is suitable for drones to land and has good customer accessibility.

It automatically flies at a speed of 10m per second, delivering items within 5kg to a radius of 5km.

Currently, there are 31 departure points across the country, mainly in areas with poor logistics, and 241 delivery outlets can deliver goods.

In particular, it is expected to be able to provide fast and convenient delivery service to mountainous or island areas with poor road conditions, and to areas isolated due to heavy snow or heavy rain.

According to the statistics of the Ministry of Public Administration and Security, the use of drones reduces the travel distance by 69% and travel time by 70% compared to when a human delivers by car.

The Ministry of Public Administration and Security is planning to install 40 additional drone delivery stores in various places such as campgrounds and parks by the end of this year, while also expanding the drone delivery service in the public sector, which has been piloting in Yeongwol-gun, Gangwon-do since last year.
